Basic Computer Maintenance Tips To Keep Your Computer In Check.

Has your computer seemed a little slow lately? Is it so bad that you can’t manage a simple task without the computer freezing or crashing?

Or maybe you just want to make sure you are up-to-date with all this “technology”. Well, you’re at the right place! We will discuss a few important computer care and maintenance tips.

Have a good anti-virus and anti-spyware software running.

With so many nasty viruses out there, it’s very important to keep your computer protected with an anti-virus software. There are several out there, some are free and others are pricey. With an anti-virus software installed on the computer, it’s best to perform frequent scans to check if your computer has a bug.

Always update the software (at least once a week). This will ensure that you have full protection! Most anti-virus and/or anti-spyware software will update itself automatically.

No matter how you use it, it’s important to have one that works!

Update the operating system often.

If you have a working computer, you more than likely have an operating system you’re using (Windows, Mac, Linux) and it’s a very good idea to update it. Doing so ensures that you have the latest and greatest. If you decide not to update the operating system, you risk leaving your computer vulnerable to security exploits.

Back-up important files.

You should consistently back-up important files/folders on your computer. You can back-up the data from your system in several ways… the Cloud, an external hard drive, a flash drive, or you could always break out the good ol’ CD’s to back-up a handful of files. Whichever method you decide to use, it’s something that should be done.

Keep the device physically clean and dust-free!

Although it's very good to keep the operating system/software side of your device clean (where all the magic internal beep-boop and bopping occurs), it's also very important not to forget the hardware side of your system. Keeping the physical nature of your device clean can sometimes be very challenging... especially if you have a laptop. Keep your device dust-free though!

Letting it collect dust is never a good idea. The hardware may overheat and cause your system to crash or become unresponsive. We recommend that you educate yourself a little or seek professional assistance before cleaning the device.

When vacuuming your house, make a mental note to always shut down your computer.

This somewhat goes with Care Tip #4, shutting down your computer or device before you vacuum. This might sound silly but doing this will help keep your computer a slightly bit cleaner of dust over time.

The reason is due to the fact that most machines have fans inside them that keep your CPU cool and in some cases your video hardware cool as well. This draws in dust over a period of time, and if you're vacuuming.. just imagine all the dust flying through the air that your computer is most likely getting a hold of.
